He has no idea what he's talking about, Heaven's. FF6 had little to do with FF7. FF7 is popular because it's the first 3D Final Fantasy. FF6 had the better villain, but FF7 had a better battle system, in my opinion. It's like saying "FF9 is what made FFX so great" as I hated 9 but loved 10.

I think FF7 is so popular because it was the first RPG they played Not to mention that it's also a very very good game.
Here in Europe there was very few RPGs around prior to FF7, and FF7 was even the first FF game to be relased here. Everything changed with the release of FF7. Suddenly, Japanese developers saw a point in releasing their RPGs here, and the game opened so many ppl's eyes to the RPG genre.

No, that just means FF6 was made when the strict censoring of video games was finally lowered quite a bit. I remember a bit of controversy of the original Castlevania game because it had crosses, a religious symbol. Nintendo refused to release games with any sort of censor violations in the early years, even blood was considered taboo - today I direct you to Grand Theft Auto and you can see how lax the laws are now.
And then you make a point about the spell Holy - Holy has been in several FF games before even 7. The very first FF had a spell FADE which was the same exact thing as Holy - but once again, they couldn't violate the censors by putting in the word "Holy." They renamed it Holy in Origins.

That is a matter of opinion. You shouldn't make comments like that without adding that it's your personal opinion, as they can cause heated meaningless arguments over which game is better than which, often accompanied by name-calling and attempts at portraying the opponent as a retard. That has never happened here luckily, but I've seen some ugly examples of it on other forums..

Well, I know you meant in your opinion, but the post can appear to readers to be stating facts and not opinions. Now, it may seem ridicolous, but some ppl will misinterpret it, perhaps on purpose, trust me. Just be warned.. unless you like having heated arguments with name-callings (some ppl seem to actually enjoy them, and they are fun, or sad, to read for those who aren't participating, but still so meaningless as they don't lead anywhere). Just a friendly warning, nothing else..

Re: turn of events that lead to ff7
But...to get back on Xero's original topic, i personally believe that Final Fantasy VI had nothing to do with Final Fantasy VII's extreme success. FF7 made FF7 Great, there's no doubt, especially since its the first PSX Final Fantasy, also, to add to my personal opinion, I never played FF6 before FF7 so this is just another reason for stating why i liked FF7 so much.
