...the next place you want to go is to the western continent. From where you begin once you have your ship (which is just west of Port Prospect...if you need to you can warp there) sail West until you reach a small island with a castle (Princess Minnie's Castle.) Go in and talk w/the princess to learn all about her family's infamous infatuation w/mini medals... =o Afterwards, continue sailing West, between the 'shelves' of the continent and under a rock structure supporting a town...which you won't be able to get to for some time. Now, a little further west of here will be a Chapel, go in and save; afterwards, begin walking Southwest until you come to Bacarrat, another casino town (yay!)
Still after this, leave town after you've fooled around and have seen the few action event sequences in this town, (you can't get into the casino until after a sub-quest is completed later.) warp to the chapel you were just at. Get into your ship and sail Northwest to an isle with the Dark Ruins. You can go there, but you can't get in just yet. Still, I think you need to see the action event sequence and talk to the NPCs to find out what to do. Warp back to Bacarrat and open your map and look at how to get to the next closest 'town' which is just up the path a short ways...you'll have to answer some questions to get in - but they aren't difficult to answer correctly. After completing this short side quest, you can get back on with the main storyline by heading to a castle to the East, as well as a wooded area to the South (in between Bacarrat and the desert) - easily reached by heading Southeast/East until you come to a tent w/peddlers and then West through the woods until you come to the Mystical Spring. Once you get to the castle to the East, though, is where the storyline progresses and you should have no trouble finding out what to do next.

As far as the weapons you can get - it really depends which skill sets you've been working up as you level. Hopefully you are going Spears with Hero, Axes w/Yangus, Whips with Jessica and, personally, I would prolly go with Staves and Carisma w/Angelo because of the spells he gets, but you probably went with either Bows or Swords...either of which is fine for him.
Really, you don't have to worry too much about weapons. Just level enough to get by with the story and then, later on when you get better items and can get to different areas you can level/gain Gold MUUUUCH more-easily.
